The original Elizabeth Bridge was completed in 1903 and was considered one of the most elegant suspension bridges in Europe. Sadly, the original structure was destroyed during World War II, when retreating German troops blew it up in 1945 along with all the other Danube bridges.

The current Elizabeth Bridge, rebuilt in 1964, was redesigned in a sleek, modern style while keeping the same alignment as the original. Unlike its ornate predecessor, today’s version is a white cable bridge that blends simplicity with elegance.
